Helping each other reach our dreams

Let’s face it, we’re a competitive society. We’re born into this world already being compared to other newborns on growth charts and it doesn’t stop there. We’re measured, graded, evaluated and tested against our peers. We compete on the playing field, on college applications and eventually against others in business.

We’re trained to win. To come out on top. To reach our goals and fulfill our dreams.

But can we all fulfill our dreams? Now, we can’t all be Olympic gold medalists or the President of the United States. If those are your dreams you had better start preparing for some tough competition!

What if your dream is to be the best parent for your children? To have a healthy family?  To inspire people to do great things? To cure disease? To make the world a little better than you found it? To simply be a good person?

As I head out to an event called BlogHer with fellow (mostly women) bloggers, I wonder how much competition will play a role at the conference. The kinds of conventions that I’ve attended in the past have put companies against each other in an effort to win new customers at any and all costs.

But this one is different. Sure, not every blogger will land an invite to Walmart’s 11 Moms or a fantastic gig like Jessica Smith. Not every blogger will reach enough followers to support their family with ad income.

If we all share a passion to reach out to our community and share ideas with our written words, then we can all succeed. There are enough people out there looking for enlightenment, education or entertainment to go around, right?

Yes, we can all fulfill our dreams. And think about how much easier it is when we help each other do so.
