I have always loved browsing catalogs. It probably started with the Sears wish book when I was a little girl. I think I wished for everything pink, pretty and girly. Even in adulthood, I still love looking through my favorite catalogs for inspiration, or to dream about pretty things, and plan future home projects.
Recently, we realized how often we walk right from the mailbox to the recycling bin with most of it's contents, and decided to unsubscribe to many of the catalogs and other direct mail we were receiving. And it was easy. My husband found this great site, Catalog Choice, that let's you choose what you want, or don't want.
The process was easy, but goodbyes never are. Some catalogs I haven't even missed at all. But there's a handful that I think of often, especially like now with the new season approaching.
Like Crate and Barrel. We have a store probably 8 miles from our house but so rarely head that direction. And it's not the kind of store I enjoy exploring with kids in tow. I love their furniture, rugs and basics, but adore their glass. Not their glassware, but their glass storage items, glass serving pieces, pitchers, etc. Since we went plastic-free a few years back, I've fallen in love with glass. There's something traditional and comforting about it. And I love seeing the contents within my pretty jars or bottles. ooh, can't get enough.
Or maybe I can. I read something this week about glass storage for kids' craft materials and was totally inspired to overhaul our supply closet, starting with a trip to Crate and Barrel. Until I was reminded that the primary user of the craft supplies will be turning just 3 next month.
So, we're probably not ready to store supplies that she has free access to in beautiful glass containers, yet. And we're pretty good on other glass storage containers, so our trip will wait.
Although I miss some of my catalogs, I was pleased to see how similar the experience can be on Crate and Barrel's site to view their catalog online. Not exactly. But close. And for now, as close as I get. Until we're ready for craft-supply-keeping overhaul (ooh, can't wait).
