I already knew that Oregon is a hungry state but a quick check at the OFB site indicates that over 200,000 people are receiving emergency food box meals each month. A MONTH! The smart folks at Oregon Food Bank have made it super easy to donate food for the hungry folks in Oregon with drop off locations all over town. I thought we would need to find a local food drive or make the drive clear across town to drop off our goods but they have plenty of sites in the burbs. I knew they would have figured this all out.
Here's a link to the many convenient locations across Oregon to drop off food. They have another link to most wanted foods to make it even easier. I'll share this with my son as we take the $12 he's pulled out from his piggy bank to buy food for those who need it.
Right before the holidays, a group of co-workers had the pleasure of spending an afternoon at the Oregon Food Bank. We had such a rewarding, fun time packing rice and beans into boxes that would be part of those emergency food boxes. All told, we helped in the delivery of over 6,000 meals in just a few short hours. Not only was it good for our muscles, it was also great for our spirits as we head into the holiday season. And it was an experience that we're looking forward to repeating soon.
